For complete details on this conference and to download the conference brochure please follow the link here Numeracy Workshops Informed by NAPLAN Trend Data In Term 4, the QCAA will be holding specially-tailored workshops in the following districts to assist the teaching of subtraction in Years 2 and 3 and proportional reasoning in Years 6 and 7: Brisbane North, Brisbane South, Cairns, Toowoomba and Townsville. These topics have been selected because our analysis of trends in NAPLAN data indicates that students find these areas of numeracy to be the most challenging. These hands-on workshops will address common error patterns and provide teachers with a toolkit of strategies, activities and resources that can be used immediately in class to give targeted support to students. ABC Splash Have you visited the ABC Splash site recently? They have a selection of digibooks to engage students on a range of topics that support the Australian Curriculum. You will find a good selection for either Primary or Secondary programs. For viewers outside Australia I think you will also find this a useful resource for your school. International Children's Digital Library Maybe the International Children’s Digital Library is more to your liking. The ICDL Foundation's goal is to build a collection of books that represents outstanding historical and contemporary books from throughout the world. Ultimately, the Foundation aspires to have every culture and language represented so that every child can know and appreciate the riches of children's literature from the world community. You are bound to find some great digital resources here. Primary Connections Primary Connections now has assessment rubrics available for every unit. They have also have a new website. The following units of work have now been uploaded into Scootle and are currently available: • English (Years 1 – 10: Unit 5) • English (Prep: Unit 3) • Mathematics (Years 1 – 10A: Unit 4) • Mathematics (Prep: Unit 3) • Science (Years P – 6: Unit 3) • Science (Years 7 – 10: Unit 5) • History (Years P – 6: Unit 2) The Department of Education, Training and Employment have advised that the next major upload of 29 units Kindy Resources Early years educators are encouraged to register to receive news updates from the QCAA related to implementation of the Queensland kindergarten learning guideline. These updates complement the wide ranging resources for kindergarten teachers on the QCAA website. The QCAA’s videos for kindergarten teachers are also available on our YouTube channel . Revised standards elaborations encourage national approach to assessment The revised standards elaborations (SEs) for P–10 Australian Curriculum English and Mathematics are now available. SEs assist teachers to use achievement standards to make consistent, comparable and defensible A to E judgments about a folio of student work. The revision process included an agreement to strengthen a national approach to assessment and standards by pitching the achievement standard at a ‘C’. Revised SEs for Science, History and Geography are coming soon. Reading Australia Resources Reading Australia is a major funding initiative for Copyright Agency's Cultural Fund, providing online resources for the teaching and learning of Australian literature in Australian schools and universities. For more information follow link here Learning Account Cards for Year 10 and 12 Schools wishing additional Your learning account cards for Year 10 students should email their order to [email protected] . The cards include a pop-out section where students can record their learning account login details. National Scene Review of the Australian Curriculum The Australian Government established the Review of the Australian Curriculum in January 2014. The review evaluated the robustness, independence and balance of the process and development of the Australian Curriculum is delivering what students need, parents expect and the nation requires in an increasingly competitive world. The Review of the Australian Curriculum Final Report has recently been released and can be found via this link. New resources support P–10 Geography implementation Comparing G20 countries is a new sample assessment package for Year 6 Geography that develops students’ critical thinking skills using the QCAA Interactive G20 Map. Students also use data in maps and graphs to develop an infographic using The Queensland Plan . Comparing G20 countries is one of five new assessment packages for Geography that help primary teachers plan for 2015. New Standards for RTOs The Australian Government has announced new regulatory Standards for training providers including school RTOs. The standards come into effect from 1 January 2015 although existing RTOs have until 1 April 2015 to transition. The QCAA will provide further information in the near future including details of our workshops for school RTOs to be held in Term 1 2015. The future of myfuture Guidance officers should note that the national career and exploration service myfuture will continue at a reduced capacity until 30 June next year. It was originally due to be decommissioned on 31 December 2014. Continuity of Learning and Effective Transitions to School The Hon Sussan Ley MP, Assistant Minister for Education, has released a national resource to support effective transition to school and school age care. This resource has been developed by Educational Transitions Continuity and Change research team at Charles Sturt University and includes effective transition practices, which reflect the experiences of children, families, educators and communities as they support transitions to school and school age care.
