Australian CurriculumShape of the Australian Curriculum: Civics and Citizenship
ACARA is pleased to announce the release of the Shape of the Australian Curriculum: Civics and Citizenship, which will guide development of curriculum that will help young Australians to become active and informed citizens in a global context. During the consultation period, which ran from June to August 2012, a range of stakeholders provided feedback on the draft shape paper. Respondents included educators, community organisations, professional associations and state and territory education authorities.The final Shape of the Australian Curriculum: Civics and Citizenship will guide the development of the detailed Civics and Citizenship curriculum during 2013. View the Shape paper. Australian Curriculum : Languages ACARA has made significant progress in the development of the F-10 Australian Curriculum: Languages in 2012. Further activity, including national public consultation, will continue through 2013 as curricula for 12 languages are developed, subjected to consultation, and then finalised for publication. The languages for which F-10 Australian Curriculum will be developed by the end of 2013 are: A Framework for Aboriginal Languages and Torres Strait Islander Languages Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Modern Greek, Spanish and Vietnamese The draft curriculum for F-10 Italian and F-10 Chinese is scheduled to be released for public consultation from December 2012 through April 2013. ACARA encourages participation in this important stage of the curriculum development process. Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has released a new game called Zippep's Astro Circus. Zippep and his friends reinforce the concept of computer security, through games aimed at students from Prep to Year 2. K–12 conference
For several years, the QSA’s K–12 conference has been a highlight on Queensland’s professional development calendar for educators. We are pleased to announce that our next conference will be held on Thursday 24 and Friday 25 July 2014 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. There will be no QSA conference in 2013 but we are confident that the extra planning time available means our 2014 event will be the most comprehensive, engaging and informative yet. |
State and National SceneNAPLAN
Access teaching tips for Numeracy that have been provided by QSA. 2013 The 2013 NAPLAN tests will be held on Tuesday 14, Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 May. Please ensure school staff are aware of these dates and avoid booking camps, excursions or sporting events for this period. Parents/carers should also be made aware of the test dates so that families who want their children to participate in the test can avoid making family commitments during the test week. The writing task for the 2013 NAPLAN Writing tests for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will be a persuasive task. Resources to assist the teaching of persuasive writing are available on the QSA Website. Clean Up Australia Day Schools Clean Up day Friday 1 March, 2013. Registrations will be open mid-November. However if you can’t wait that long then we always encourage you to Clean Up Every Day. Register now at cleanupaustraliaday.org.au to get started on your next event. E-Waste Electronic waste is one of the fastest growing contributors to our waste stream. As more and more outdated electronic equipment ends up in landfill, the negative impacts of e-waste on the environment and humans will increase. Find out more about e-waste and a great new recycling service by DHL National Assessment Program: Civics and Citizenship NAP - Civics and Citizenship online assessment will be implemented across all jurisdictions and sectors for selected schools in 2013. Field trials will be conducted in QLD, NSW and Victoria from 13 - 28 March 2013 and the main study between 14 October and 1 November 2013 for Year 6 and Year 10. The Australian Government has announced a Schools’ Award Competition, a free Gallipoli iBook and a range of resources for ANZAC Day 2013. Details on the website. National Science Week 2013 Minister for Science and Research, Senator Chris Evans, today opened applications for National Science Week 2013 - an annual celebration of all things science. A total of $500,000 will be spent through the Gillard Government's Inspiring Australia initiative to provide grants between $2000 to $25,000 to organisations and community groups to design and develop events for next year's National Science Week.
