Did you know that Primary Connections is releasing ten units that are fully aligned to the Australian Curriculum: Science on 1 October 2012? To find out more about the available teaching and learning resources, please visit our website: www.science.org.au/primaryconnections A new IDEAS resource from ACSA The new resource is called An Australian voice and it is aligned to learning outcomes for senior primary students in the Australian Curriculum areas of English, History and Civics and citizenship. Students will consider the role of the media, and particularly the ABC, in the Australian community. The investigation will encourage students to explore some of the factors (beyond the system of laws and government) that contributed to Australia developing a sense of nationhood. The learning sequence will also promote a greater understanding of some of the changes in Australian society during the twentieth century. Learning about Asia through Mathematics The first 4 of 12 units of work from Prep to Year 9 develop students mathematical skills using an Asia context are now available. All are aligned to the Australian Curriculum. Students' persuasive writing responses to the 2012 NAPLAN writing stimulus, Everyone should learn to cook, are available on the secure version of the QSA website until 30 November 2012. Schools are advised to download the files to the school network and to ensure that appropriate security measures are in place to maintain privacy and to avoid unauthorised access. Requests for re-marking Schools considering requesting a re-mark will be able to use the scripts together with NAPLAN's 2012 Persuasive Marking Guide to inform their decision. Nominations for the 2012 Australian Vocational Student Prize (AVSP) are open now! Schools are invited to nominate outstanding Year 12 students who have undertaken a Vocational Education and Training in Schools program or an Australian School-based Apprenticeship as part of their senior secondary certificate. This is a great opportunity to recognise the efforts of some of the nation's most skilled students who have chosen a practical pathway through their senior studies. These students have gained invaluable employability skills to give them a head start in their career. Up to 500 students will be awarded $2000 and a certificate. The highest achieving AVSP winners are also eligible for the Prime Minister's Award for Skills Excellence in School, with an additional $2000 for the winners.
