2013 national protocols The National Protocols for Test Administration are set out in the 2013 Handbook for Principals which has been sent to all schools. This handbook is for all teachers, including teachers in special education units, who have responsibility for students eligible to sit the NAPLAN tests. Teachers should familiarise themselves with the contents of the national protocols in the handbook which is also available on the QSA website: www.qsa.qld.edu.au/8021.html. Preparing for Naplan The best preparation schools can provide for students is teaching the curriculum, as the tests reflect core elements of the curriculum. Read further advise from the QSA. Catholic Education Week 2013 The Catholic Education Week 2013 Official Ambassador is Anthony Ryan. Anthony’s work in the area of social justice education will be well known to many as he has brought to life this year’s theme of ‘Making a difference…inspired by Jesus’. Foundation Skills Training package The Foundations Skills Training Package that has qualifications which may be applicable to secondary school students has been submitted to National Skills Standards Authority for endorsement. Course materials are on the website. Principals to confirm Year 12 data The 2012 Year 12 school learner reports will be available from the secure QSA website by Friday 15 March for principals to check the accuracy of information to be included in the forthcoming Year 12 outcomes report. The deadline for providing feedback to the QSA on the data is 28 March 2013. Australian CurriculumTeaching Australian Curriculum: English
Education Queensland has developed a practical and professional resource to support teachers and school leaders implementing the Australian Curriculum: English F-10 with a focus on differentiation and explicit teaching. ACARA 2012 Work Samples Project Portfolios of annotated student work samples to support teachers in planning and implementing the Australian Curriculum are located within each learning area. New Curriculum Resources Asia Education Foundation has developed resources for students of years 5, 6 and 9 to engage with China through History and English addressing Cross-curriculum priorities and General capabilities in the Australian Curriculum. Diocesan SceneTeacher Librarian Scholarships
The Master of Education (Teacher Librarianship) is a specialist degree that prepares teachers for professional leadership as teacher librarians in primary and secondary schools. The scholarships offered are an initiative of Catholic Education Services to sponsor a further cohort of three teachers to complete this degree through an Australian Library and Information Association recognised course. Catholic Education Services have procured an online subscription for the 2013 school year to Britannica Online – School Edition on behalf of all systemic Primary Schools. ‘Opt in’ arrangements have been offered to direct funded schools. Britannica Online - School Edition is an online encyclopedia that offers access to a range of reference and curriculum content. It provides various access points to authoritative information, journals and news for early, middle and senior levels of learning. Accessing Britannica Access for most schools is currently via “2013 School Library Subscriptions plus” class in 'myclasses'. This page has been configured to allow access for all students and staff. Nomination forms are now available for the QCT Excellence in Teaching Awards. The four categories of awards recognise exceptional teachers. Nominations close 12 July. ANZAC Centenary Local Grants Program The Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program is part of the Australian Government’s Anzac Centenary program providing up to $100,000 for projects commemorating the World War I. Applications are open from 31 May 2013 until 28 February 2014. Artists in Residence Program Funding is available to schools to develop projects that involve collaboration between education and arts sectors. Initial proposals close 29 March 2013. Queensland Training Awards Award categories include recognition of outstanding achievement in school-based apprentices, trainees, training organisations, teachers and trainers. Applications close 22 March 2013 and details online. VET: Access and Equity Funding QCEC distributes a limited pool of funding aimed at providing access and equity to the workplace. Subsidies may be available to support students who travel long distances to access off-the-job training for SATs. Financial subsidies may also be available to support verified students in School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships and Structured Work Experience. Application forms on the website.
