Thank you to Geraldine Norris and Debbie Mayall for all of the work they put in to make our conference so successful. It is the behind the scenes efforts before and durig the day that often go unnoticed but with out this the conference would not have been as successful as it was. Hatching Chickens If you are planning to hatch chickens in your school this year for Easter and have not received approval to use animals in education from DEEDI or QSAEC then you will be unable to do so. Schools wishing to hatch chickens or use other animals in education need to contact Christine Masters who will apply for permission on your behalf. Masters of Education (Teacher Librarians) Scholarships Scholarship grants are being offered by Catholic Education Services. Details of the application process are available here. Applications close 4 April, 2012. Ready to Improve? The Improve online formative assessment tool supports teaching and learning. It is an interactive learning system for teachers and students to improve learning outcomes. Contact, a member of the Curriculum Team to learn more about using Improve. State and National SceneNational Professional Standards for Teachers
The National Professional Standards for Teachers website contains illustrations of practice videos highlighting the ‘Standards’ as they apply to teachers’ particular career stages. Children in Care of the State – Contingency Funding The Education Support Funding Program provides funding to support children and young people in care of the state. QCEC retains a portion of these funds to be accessed by schools for short-term, emergent needs of children and young people in care of the state who require additional support services. The QCEC Contingency Guidelines and Application form are available on the QCEC website. SATs Seed Funding Seed funding of $300 is available for students in years 10-12 enrolled in a School-based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SATs). Schools submit completed Education Training and Employment Schedule (ETES) forms to QCEC to claim payment. NAPLAN 2012 The National protocols for test administration are set out in the 2012 Handbook for Principals which has been sent to all schools. This handbook is for all teachers, including teachers in special education units and advisory visiting teachers, who have responsibility for students eligible to sit the NAPLAN tests. Teachers should familiarise themselves with the contents of the national protocols in the handbook. The handbook is available on the QSA website. |

Many people know Andrew as ‘the Digital Blooms Guy’ and Digital Blooms Taxonomy will indeed be part of his presentations. Andrew is a teacher at Kristin School, Auckland where a mobile computing program sees students with personal mobile devices, laptops. He is an author, keynote and workshop presenter and ICT enthusiast. He believes that to prepare our students for the future, we must prepare them for change, teach them to question and think, to adapt and modify, to sift and sort. They are born into a world where the only constant is change, they are immersed in technology and yet are unaware of how ubiquitous this technology is. As follow up to the recent Australian Curriculum : History Professional Development, Diigo Groups for P-6 and 7-10 has been set up. Teachers can join the group and contribute useful web resources. Diigo is a social bookmarking site, which means that the collective bookmarks or favourites of this group can be accessed from any internet enabled computer by anyone with a Diigo account. Anti-bullying and anti-violence resources Anti-bullying and anti-violence resources can be accessed at the Working Together: A toolkit for effective school based action against bullying and cyber-bullying website. Indigenous Lighthouse Grants Queensland schools are encouraged to apply for the Indigenous Lighthouse Grants. The grants aim to improve education, training and arts outcomes for Indigenous children and young people. Applications close 13 April. For details visit the Indigenous Education and Training website.
