Teacher Librarian Scholarships
The Master of Education (Teacher Librarianship) is a specialist degree that prepares teachers for professional leadership as teacher librarians in primary and secondary schools. The scholarships offered are an initiative of Catholic Education Services to sponsor a further cohort of five teachers to complete this degree through an Australian Library and Information Association recognised course. Engineers Week Engineers Australia is promoting the engineering profession and the importance of maths and sciences to students of all ages. School visits of a practicing engineer can be scheduled between 6–10 August. Bookings online. ICT Literacy Report The 2011 ICT Literacy triennial sample assessment report for students in Years 6 & 10 is now available. The report provides insights into how students are using new technologies in schools and at home. A technical report which provides further details is also available via the ACARA National Assessment Program website. Unique Student Identifier (USI) Federal and State governments have agreed to the introduction of a Unique Student Identifier (USI) for VET students from 1 January 2014. Students will require a USI to enroll in a VET course or competency and to receive a statement of attainment or certification at the completion of a training course. The Indigenous Scholarships website details national scholarships for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, including five new scholarships offered by the Central Queensland University. Premier’s ANZAC Prize Applications for the Premier’s ANZAC Prize for secondary school students are open until 21 September. The Prize includes study tour expenses to Gallipoli and the Western Front. The Balanced Reader This session will look at the skills which cumulatively define a student as being a balanced reader: decoding, fluency, phrasing and reading with comprehension (literal, inferential and response). The session will also look at the complexity of children developing skills over nine different types of text.
