Australian CurriculumAustralian Curriculum work samples project
On behalf of the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA), the QSA is coordinating the collection from Queensland schools of P–10 work samples and assessment tasks in English, History, Mathematics and Science. ACARA hopes to use the work samples in teaching resources that illustrate achievement standards. Collection of work samples and assessment tasks are due in Term 3 - 10 September 2012. My Future: My Life is designed to give students with a disability in years 11 and 12 an opportunity to apply for financial assistance to transition from school. Scientists and Mathematicians in Schools Program The Commonwealth government will provide $6.5 million over four years to the Scientists and Mathematicians in Schools programs (SIS and MIS). The SIS newsletter is available online. Future technologies in education report The Horizon Report > 2012 K-12 Edition identifies the emerging technologies, trends, and challenges impacting on learning and teaching in K-12 over the next five years. The report is available for download after registration. Queensland Comparable Assessment Tasks (QCATs) Mail out in progress Look out for Years 4, 6 and 9 QCATs arriving in school between now and 22 June. The assessment packs include student booklets and teacher guidelines. Please ensure that you check and confirm the contents upon receipt. The timeframe for implementation is 9 July–21 September. Preparing for implementation Workshops providing a range of implementation advice, including on the alignment of the QCATs to the Australian Curriculum content descriptions and achievement standards, are being held at venues statewide until 20 June. Support for students with disabilities Visit the QSA website for advice on inclusive strategies for enabling learners with disabilities to participate in learning experiences and assessment on the same basis as learners without disabilities. Provide feedback on Marine Studies The revised draft Marine Studies Senior Syllabus (2013) (PDF, 433 kB) is available for comment. Have your say by completing our feedback form by Monday 25 June. Nominate to trial senior Indigenous languages syllabus Schools are invited to apply to participate in the trial of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Languages Senior Syllabus. The syllabus provides scope and flexibility to undertake study in various Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages according to community needs, resources and the geographic location of individual schools. The trial will run from 2013 to 2014 and include teacher conferences to support schools. Out of a field of 22 schools competing in primary competition, our Catholic Schools were well represented with :- St Therese's Bentley Park 2nd, St Joseph's Atherton 3rd, St Andrew's 5th and St Francis Xavier 6th. With similar numbers competing in the secondary competition the following schools did very well with:- St Stephen's No2 team 3rd, St Andrew's No1 team 4th, Good Counsel College 5th, Stephen's No1 team 6th and St Monica's 8th. The Australian Science Olympiad Exams are challenging exams for high achieving science students. Held in biology, chemistry and physics, the exams are the first step in earning a spot on the Australian team to compete at the International Science Olympiads - the Olympic Games for science students. Top performing students could earn a spot at the Australian Science Olympiad Summer School, a 15-day residential program at Monash University. It is here student’s minds will be stretched further and friendships with like-minded peers will be made. The very best Summer School students are selected to represent Australia at the International Science Olympiads in 2013. Each exam costs $9.00 (+GST) per student. Registrations close on 18 July 2012.
