Learning Ground: Indigenous Education Research Database Learning Ground is a free, Indigenous research depository filled with more than 8,000 books, articles, conference papers and reports on a broad range of topics in Indigenous Education. The website provides information on a wide range of programs, services, news and events. Queensland Outback Education An Outback Education Tour Subsidy is offered to schools taking years 5, 6 and 7 students on a camp. The Outback Queensland Education Handbook provides resource for teachers to build Queensland's history and heritage into their curriculum. Resources for Starting School KidsMatter Families provides practical ways parents can prepare children for starting school and has six videos to support families manage the transition to school. Each topics comes with handy hints and an information sheet. Safe Schools Hub An enhanced version of the Safe Schools Hub, originally launched in March and underpinning the National Safe Schools Framework has been released. It now includes a professional learning module for specialist staff in schools and a section for parents. School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SATs) QCEC distributes seed funding of $300.00 for each SAT on receipt of a completed ETES form. Funding is not provided for year 12 students who enter a SAT after the end of term 3. Please submit forms to [email protected]. The Australian Vocational Student Prize (AVSP) recognises students who have demonstrated outstanding skills while completing vocational training in senior secondary years. Youth Community Service Award - Environment The Youth Community Service (Environment) Award is open to Primary and Secondary Students in the Gordonvale area. The Award has been established to assist individuals/groups to further their involvement in caring for the environment. Mulgrave Landcare and Catchment Group will be co-ordinating the selection process. There are two Awards this year, a Primary School Section and a High School section. State and National SceneAspiring Teacher Grants
Two scholarship programs for tertiary studies’ assistance are available to high achieving Year 12 graduates for 2014. Click here for the list of School Awards, Events, Competitions and Scholarships Click here for more on the TJ Ryan Memorial Medal and Scholarships Catholic Education Week 2014 Catholic Education Week (CEW) 2014 will be held from 27 July – 2 August. The theme will focus on: “Come, live life in all its fullness” ICT Literacy NAP planning Preparation is underway for the triennial ICT Literacy national sample assessment for Year 6 and 10 students next year. A field trial will be conducted in March with the main study undertaken in QLD from 13 October - 7 November 2014. Similar to the NAP – Civics and Citizenship this year, the program will involve online assessment. Information kit for school leavers Graduating students can now access a School Leavers Information Kit that provides important information about making decisions about university and TAFE and offers, advice on money, health, work and a range of other issues. Measles outbreak Queensland Health has issued a public health alert for schools and early education and care services due to the increased number of measles outbreaks this year. Parents need to be informed to keep children away from school and child care services if they think their child has measles. NAPLAN Availability of 2013 student writing scripts: Prep - Year 10 The Queensland Studies Authority (QSA) makes images of the writing scripts available to schools. The scripts will be available from 16 September 2013 until 30 November 2013 only. To access students’ scripts, take these steps before 30 November 2013: • log in to the secure section of the QSA website using your school BIC and password (personal BICs cannot be used): www.qsa.qld.edu.au/qsa_secure/QSAlogin.do • download the files to the school network (as files are large, you may wish to reduce impact on your school’s system by downloading after school or overnight) • ensure that appropriate security measures are in place to maintain privacy and to avoid unauthorised access. NAPLAN Outcomes report goes online The 2013 NAPLAN Outcomes report was published on the QSA website on Monday 16 September. It shows Queensland student achievement in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 NAPLAN tests on a school-by-school basis. National Day of Action Schools are invited to register for next year’s National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence to be held on 21 March 2014.
