State and National SceneCertificate II in Workplace Practice
The Certificate II in Workplace Practices has been amended to update the OHS unit of competency. The amended course documentation is on the QCEC website. Child Protection Week The theme for Child Protection Week 2013 is ‘Protecting children is everybody’s business – play you part.’ Activities and events are planned for 1-7 September. Funding changes for VET in Schools The State Government has announced changes to funding for courses delivered to secondary school students through TAFE institutes. Information about the changes to take affect from 1 July 2014 are in QCEC Circular 2013/131 and on the Department of Education, Training and Employment website. News for school RTOs The Term 3 issue of VET Update has news on practical aspects of vocational education and training in schools, particularly school RTO operations. Topics include the Queensland Government’s Great Skills. Real Opportunities action plan, the VET data reporting guide and Quality Indicator reports. QCS Test ResourcesThe Queensland Studies Authority has produced two new resources related to the Queensland Core Skills Test. Included is a guide to assist parents support their child’s preparation for the test and sample question preparation tool. QCT eNews QCT eNews provides current information about the teaching profession to registered teachers. The August edition includes details about presentations, workshops and research projects. Queensland Review of Senior Assessment and Tertiary Entrance Processes The Queensland Government has commissioned the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) to conduct an independent review of Queensland senior assessment and tertiary entrance processes. ACER has created a website to provide relevant information for parties interested in the review. QSA sets out future priorities The QSA Strategic Plan 2013–17 sets out our strategic priorities for the next four years, and our vision for the longer term. Snapshot 2013 Snapshot 2013: Children and Young People in Queensland published by the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian provides a report on the health, safety and wellbeing of children and young people in Queensland. Veterans’ Affairs Curriculum Sharing Project The Curriculum Sharing Project is a new education program of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) encouraging teachers to share curriculum units they have written and taught on Australian wartime and peacekeeping history.
