Young people aspiring to a career in agriculture can apply for a $10,000 scholarship to be offered through two of Queensland’s Agricultural Training ten scholarships of $10,000 each would be available under the new program starting in 2014. As part of their application, students will need to provide an explanation of their career plans in Agriculture. AIEF-BHP Billiton Scholarships Applications close 27th September 2013 for Indigenous students wishing to undertake engineering or other mining related degrees. See website for more information. Australian Government ICT Apprenticeship and Cadetship Programs The Australian Government Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Apprenticeship Program applies to students who are completing their Year 12 Certificate, and people with a passion for ICT who are looking for a new and exciting career change. more information here Ergon Energy 2014 Apprenticeship Positions available throughout Queensland for current Indigenous Year 12s and recent school leavers. Screen It 2013 The Screen It national schools filmmaking competition includes extra prizes for those entries which also investigate the issue of bullying. VET Outbound Mobility Program The Vocational Education and Training (VET) Outbound Mobility Program provides funding for VET students and staff to undertake an international study experience. The program is open to public and private RTO’s in Australia to apply for projects. Recipient institutions pass the grants to students. Look for further information here or here... Catholic Education Services seeks to establish a Consultative Working Group to review the options available for Library Management Systems for the Diocese. The working group is to consist of 5 members from our schools - preferably drawing on a cross section of stakeholders involved at various levels with school libraries. CES will look to this group to provide insight, experience and assistance with investigating the best option for our Diocese. State and National SceneACER Report
ACER has released a report titled: Reforming Educational Assessment: Imperatives, principles and challenges by Geoff Masters which calls for a reconceptualization of assessment and reporting in schools. AITSL Online Surveys Online surveys will be available on the AITSL website that cover Classroom Practice (opening 26 August 2013), Learning Frontiers Student Engagement (opening September 2013) and Evaluation of the Standards (opening October 2013). NAPLAN 2013 The date for the release of 2013 NAPLAN data by the Federal Minster for Education is 13 September. Principals must not send reports home until the Minister releases the test results. Class and school reports will be available on the QSA secure website on 16 Sept. Student reports should be checked for accuracy before sending home. VET Delegation to QSA The Australian Standards Quality Authority (ASQA) has informed QSA that a new delegation will be in place from 1 January 2014. The conditions of the new delegation will be similar to the existing one. A QSA memo will be sent to all schools once full details of the delegation are available. Year 7 to Secondary The legislation that will support the move of Year 7 to Secondary in 2015, the Education Legislation Amendment Act was assented to on 29 August.
