Release of the draft F-10 Arts Curriculum The draft Australian Curriculum: The Arts (Foundation to Year 10) is scheduled for release for public consultation on Monday, 9 July 2012. The Australian Curriculum: Civics and Citizenship – Expressions of Interest The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) is seeking Expressions of Interest for Curriculum Writers and Advisory Group Members to develop the Australian Curriculum: Civics and Citizenship from October 2012. Curriculum Writers and Advisory Group members will have extensive knowledge, understanding, and expertise in the area of Civics and Citizenship Education and some experience in the development of curriculum and/or achievement standards. New resources are available to assist schools to implement the P–10 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Languages syllabus and the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Languages trial senior syllabus. These resources include guides to materials and organisations that support the teaching and learning of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages. The Minister for Education, Training and Employment John-Paul Langbroek has confirmed that 2012 is the final year that QCATs will be available for implementation by schools. The Reading Hour The Reading Hour is to be held on 25 August. Check out the website for more information about the activities with Dymocks, the Walt Disney Company, the ABC, Scholastic, Kumon, MS Readathon and many other partners. 2013 NAPLAN The tests will be conducted in all Queensland schools on: Tuesday 14 May — Language conventions and Writing tests Wednesday 15 May — Reading Thursday 16 May — Numeracy Friday 17 May — "Catch-up" tests for students absent NAPLAN Newsletter - July The attached newsletter provides information about the marking, data processing and reporting of the 2012 NAPLAN tests. It also includes some observations made as a result of this testing. This makes interesting reading and provides some advice in relation to hadnwriting, the teaching of writing and responding to numeray questions.
