NAPLAN Marker Recruitment 2015 Each year nearly 500 Queensland teachers mark the NAPLAN Writing Task as part of either a day or evening group. I encourage Principals to support staff to join the marking team for 2015. The knowledge and experience gained will have immediate effect in the classroom and stimulate productive conversations in staffrooms. In 2014, the QCAA delivered NAPLAN results to schools ahead of all other states in the country. Maintaining this quick turnaround is only possible with the continued support and goodwill of schools and teachers. Modules The Department of Education, Training and Employment (DETE) in conjunction with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) has developed a series of online coaching modules. The first in a series of modules was How to teach reading which was released in mid-2014. DETE has advised that feedback to date on the module – from both early career and experienced teachers – has been very positive. The next two modules How to teach writing and How to teach mathematics are now available on Scootle. These modules have been developed to promote evidence-based decision making, strengthen pedagogical practice and deepen teacher knowledge in the teaching of reading, writing and mathematics. They integrate current research and effective practice. Designed for teachers to complete with the support of a coach, these modules comprise six episodes and are self-paced, optional and free of charge to complete. The How to teach science and How to assess learning and use evidence to differentiate modules are currently in development.
